Ministry Update June-September 2013

Ministry Update: June-September 2013

The Media, Gosnell, and Silence

By now, we’ve all hopefully heard about the mainstream media’s blackout of one of the most disturbing stories to come out of the abortion debate in our country in some time. Late-term baby murderer Kermit Gosnell is currently on trial on Philadelphia for eight counts of murder from late-term “botched” abortions. Seven of these counts are from late-term infants who were murdered and one count from a mother who died under his “care”. Gruesome, R-rated, stomach turning details abound about blood, body parts, drugs, and gore.

Sadly, but not surprisingly, the case is not getting much traction on mainstream media outlets. Social media outlets like Facebook are the main way the news is getting out there, and like many things on social media, the Gosnell trial has taken on a significance of its own. We see posts and reposts by pro-lifers, silence from the other side. Gosnell is not being defended by the pro-death crowd because he cannot be defended.

But I submit that pro-life Christians must be a little more self-critical, rather than criticizing our favorite whipping boy, the liberal media.

Why are we surprised that this is happening?

Has the media ever been faithful to the truth about abortion?

Have the facts about abortion ever been shared by the media?

            Never. And they never will.

Issues like the Gosnell trial reveal something about where we are in our Christian subculture. Sadly, it appears we are still expecting the world to be a certain way. We still expect the media to be fair. We expect that monsters like Gosnell will be stopped. We want our lives to be comfortable and safe and far away from the evils that surround us. What the Gosnell trial has revealed is that we still think we are the good guys, and that the liberal mediate-elites are the evil ones.

Gosnell is one of only four or five “late-term” abortionists left in the United States. But there are hundreds of “early-term” abortionists too. Not only does the media not report the 3000 babies killed per day in our nation, but most Christians who claim to be “pro-life” have yet to put any kind of feet to their faith. Yes, we vote, and yes, we pray, but have we considered going out to the sidewalks? Have we considered volunteering at crisis pregnancy center? Have we considered financially supporting pro-life missions?

The media silence on Gosnell’s trial is deafening.

But the silence of Christians on the ongoing slaughter of the innocents is deafening still.

WTIS AM Interview

On Monday, July 15th, I was blessed to a part of a radio interview promoting Florida Preborn Rescue. WTIS AM 1110 St Petersburg invited me on to talk about pro-life ministry here in the Tampa Bay area. There is a link to this interview on my blog, and on my Facebook page. The interview is about eight minutes long, and it starts about 14:00 into the link. Thanks again to Pete O’Shea and the good folks at WTIS.

Regular Saturdays in St Petersburg

Danielle CHOSE LIFE!!

June 8th was a day like any other day at the clinic on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg. Several saints stood and prayed as usual. The summer heat was sticky as ever, even at 8 a.m. A young black couple drove up to the clinic. I offered the boyfriend some information, which he took, looked at, and then entered the clinic. We kept praying for them. The young man came out to the car again after a few minutes, but did not say anything. However, about ten minutes later, the young lady came out with a very relieved look on her face. She walked right over to me and Rick Serdynski (another pro-life sidewalk counselor who has attended training from Florida Preborn Rescue) and told us, “I can’t go through with this, I knew I couldn’t go through with it.” I gave her some information for a local pregnancy center in Tampa. What a blessing. Please continue to pray for Danielle and her baby.

                                                            IRS UPDATE

As you know, Florida Preborn Rescue filed its papers with the Internal Revenue Service last December. Our purpose in filing was to become a 501c3 non-profit organization. We are officially filed with the State of Florida, and want our donors to be able to claim the non-profit tax deduction to their donations.

However, things seem to have hit a snag. It has been eight months and my application for 501c3 status with the IRS is still under review. Please pray for this process to be expedited.

OPPORTUNITY FOR PARTNERSHIP: From 40 years, to 40 churches

We are at 11% of full support. My goal is to be a fully-supported by the end of 2013. After 40 years of Roe v. Wade, the LORD has laid on my heart the idea of having 40 churches to partner with Florida Preborn Rescue. Would your church be willing to support a pro-life, pro-Jesus, sidewalk-centered mission work? That is who we are.

At full (100% support) Florida Preborn Rescue will:

Establish a ministry presence at each Tampa Bay area abortion clinic.

Contact and network with churches and pro-life ministries near clinics.

Minister each month to 240 abortion minded women and men at the seven local abortion clinics and 60-75 clinic staff, including doctors and nurses.

Teach 4-6 sidewalk counseling classes each month at churches statewide.

Raise up pro-life leaders in local congregations near each clinic. Churches catch the vision, and the vigils are constant at each clinic until the LORD closes them.
